Lady of the Lake

Lady of the Lake
Almuth Lutkenhaus, 1973
Bronze sculpture on top of Centennial Fountain

Lady of the Lake was created in 1973 as a part of Burlington’s Centennial Fountain. R.J. Van Seters Co. Ltd. built the fountain and commissioned artist Almuth Lutkenhaus (1930 - 1996) to create the Lady of the Lake sculpture. Referred to by various spellings of the names Nimue or Vivienne, Lady of the Lake represents the mysterious female who gave King Arthur his magical sword, Excalibur. The sculpture symbolizes Burlington’s relationship to Lake Ontario.
